MGTO provides training to tourism government officials from Portuguese-speaking countries

Published on 2015/03/09

Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) cooperates with the Supporting Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation Between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries (Macau) to carry out the training program of this year for tourism government officials from Portuguese-speaking countries. This program aims to facilitate the trainees to understand the development of Macau’s tourism industry and the daily operation of MGTO, and to reinforce mutual learning and exchange, hence contributing to training tourism professionals for these countries.

18 tourism government officials from Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and East Timor will come to Macau in March, April and May respectively for training and internship at MGTO. The first 6 trainees will receive training from 16 to 27 March. The departments of MGTO which provide training include: Organisational Planning and Development Department, Destination Marketing Department, Administration and Finance Department, Licensing and Inspection Department, and Tourism Product and Events Department. The training also includes, among others, technical tours to Macau’s World Heritage, other tourist attractions and infrastructure. By organizing the training program, MGTO expects to reinforce mutual learning and exchange between Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries in the tourism area, and assist in training tourism professionals for these countries.

MGTO signed the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in tourism with Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique in 2010, and with East Timor in 2013. Between 2012 and 2014, MGTO already welcomed a total of 57 tourism government trainees from these Portuguese-speaking countries.
