EXTREME THREAT

Avoid travel: Presence of an extreme threat to personal safety. Macao residents planning to travel to or in that destination should be aware of the severe situation and limits on official assistance that can be provided there. It is advised to avoid travelling to and, in some cases, leave the destination.

ELEVATED THREAT

Reconsider non-essential travel: The threat to personal safety is elevated. Macao residents planning to travel to or in that destination should reconsider the need to travel at this time. It is suggested to avoid non-essential travel to the destination. 

A THREAT HAS EMERGED

Exercise caution: There is an imminent threat to personal safety. Macao residents planning to travel to or in that destination should be alert and vigilant towards own safety. It is suggested to exercise caution and monitor development that might affect personal safety.

Note

The Travel Alert System is not prohibitive, the decision to travel or to adjust the travel plans in accordance with the information provided is individual. It is recommended that Macao residents to purchase travel insurance with international medical evacuation coverage before traveling, as well as to check with the insurance companies in case of doubt about the terms and conditions of the coverage.

Other reminders

  • When traveling abroad, Macao residents should always pay attention to their personal belongings and travel documents to prevent thefts and robberies. They should also avoid protests and unsafe areas.
  • When heading to a specific destination, residents should be mindful of and respect the local laws, customs, and religious beliefs practiced in those destinations.
  • Certain risks and dangers such as scams, frauds and events that are limited in space and time target or can endanger specific groups of people. Macao residents should always pay special attention to the following situations:
    • Job offers originating from unknown or untrustworthy sources promising high remuneration overseas;
    • Requests for payments that Macao residents my receive via SMS or phone call from unknown and/or unverified sources during, before and after your travels;
    • Travelling to countries during local overseas religious events, festivals or travels during the destinations’ peak travel seasons or destinations where ecological or humanitarian disasters have taken or are taking place.

In addition to the issued alerts, residents of Macao should also carefully plan their itineraries for the following countries and destinations (Not included in the 110 Countries/Destinations covered by the Macao SAR Travel Alert System):

Should Macao residents believe to have been involved in or notice any criminal activity when travelling abroad, they are advised to contact the competent authorities such as the local police and the Macao security forces.
