Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt closed for renovation (Translation)

Published on 2005/12/21

The Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, located at the basement of the inner area of the Ruins of St. Paul's, will be closed from 26th December 2005 to 9th January 2006 for interior renovation.

Since cultural heritage plays an important role of Macau's tourism, the authorities have put a lot of effort into protecting and promoting Macau's cultural heritage. During the period mentioned above, the enclosure of the Ruins of St. Paul's will be open conditionally, while the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt will be temporarily closed for renovation.

The Museum of Sacred Art exhibits a selection of religious paintings, statues and objects from Churches in Macau. In the room adjacent to the Museum is the Crypt; on its side walls the visitor can observe the relics of martyrs from Japan and Vietnam.

Macau has a unique historic background, being one of the oldest encounter points for the East and the West. "The Historic Centre of Macau" has been inscribed on UNESCO's prestigious World Heritage List since July 2005.
