In the first day of the Chinese New Year (14 February), Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) presented an "Experience Macau" float at the "Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade" organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The floated was decorated to promote various tourist attractions of Macau and also to extend greetings for the Year of the Tiger to the audience.

As the second largest tourist source market of Macau, MGTO has been thankful to the Hong Kong residents who are keen supporters of Macau. Throughout the year, MGTO has launched different consumer and trade campaigns to promote the increasing tourist elements in Hong Kong, in particular, Chinese New Year Parade was regarded as an excellent opportunity to get in touch with the Hong Kong people as well as those overseas visitors transiting to Macau via Hong Kong.

This year MGTO continues to employ the promotional theme "Experience Macau!", guiding the visitors to employ their five senses, to "See", "Taste", "Touch", "Feel" and "Hear" the fascinating travel experience in Macau. The MGTO float was thus decorated with vivid "See, Taste, Touch, Feel and Hear" rotating spheres. Colourful festive photos and handprints were painted on the two sides to symbolize Macau as an energetic, creative and diversified city with a blend of Chinese and Western cultures. The red Chinese scroll and auspicious wordings were hung on the float to convey good wishes to the crowd.

Entering into a new era of administration, the Macau SAR Government will continue advance with the objective of moderate economic diversification by developing potential source markets, enriching tourism products, nurturing MICE industry and participating proactively in the regional development of the MICE industry.  At the same time, more cultural resources will be explored and more cultural tourism products will be developed to support tourism development.

Number of visitors to Macau in 2009 was amounted from 7.5 million in 1999 to 21.75 million. Hong Kong is the second largest source market of Macau. Over 6.7 million Hong Kong visitors traveled to Macau last year.
