Macao will once again be featured as the “International Favourite Destination” at the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair 2026, set to be held in April in Kuala Lumpur. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will take advantage of the designation to showcase the destination’s diverse “tourism +” offerings and promote special travel products to attract more visitors from Malaysia, as part of the initiatives to consolidate the Southeast Asian market.

Major opportunity to promote Macao in Malaysia with renewed designation

MATTA held a press conference today (26 March) in Kuala Lumpur to announce Macao as the upcoming fair’s “International Favourite Destination” and details about the fair. MGTO Deputy Director, Cheng Wai Tong, traveled to Malaysia to attend the press conference.

Cheng Wai Tong remarked at the occasion that Malaysia is one of Macao’s ten largest visitor source markets, adding that being highlighted for the second consecutive year as the “International Favourite Destination” of MATTA Fair provides an outstanding opportunity to directly reach out to Malaysian travellers and tap into the potential to drive more visitor flows to the city through both mono- and multi-destination tourism.

The Vice President of Research and Technology of MATTA, Mohd Hizzat Mohd Shah said that travel has always been part of who Malaysians are, its love to explore, to experience, and to connect with the world beyond the country’s shores. Outbound tourism has always been one of the fair’s main touchpoints, and welcoming Macao as the event’s “International Favourite Destination” once again, reflects this idea and initiative.

Showcase Macao “tourism +” at the fair to expand Southeast Asian market

The MATTA Fair, scheduled to take place 3 to 5 April in Kuala Lumpur, is Malaysia’s largest international tourism fair for consumers. As MATTA Fair’s “International Favourite Destination”, Macao will be highlighted by the organizer across promotional materials and throughout the event venue, including during the opening ceremony.

MGTO will participate with a booth themed “Experience Macao” at the fair, inviting visitors to explore the city’s top tourism attractions: the two “UNESCO calling cards” of the east-meets-west cultural heritage and diverse gastronomy, alongside the vibrant calendar of festive events and live entertainment, and characteristic atmosphere of community areas. Additionally, the booth will host daily workshops for visitors to experience Macao’s intangible cultural heritage, featuring Tai Chi and Wing Chun martial arts, and painting of Portuguese tiles.

Promote Macao mono- and multi-destination travel products

Special travel packages and discounts aimed at driving more bookings to Macao for both mono- and multi-destination travel will also be available for purchase at the fair, presented by MGTO in partnership with eight travel agencies from Malaysia. While daily Macao destination promotion sessions will be conducted on the fair’s main stage, in conjunction with games and lucky draws featuring prizes such as accommodation, show tickets, and restaurant coupons for use in the city.

Travel trade visit to Macao next to drive more visitor flows from Malaysia

The MATTA Fair showcase will reinforce MGTO’s ongoing promotional efforts in Malaysia this year targeting consumers, which include special travel packages and discount air tickets to boost visitor flows to Macao. Following the fair, MGTO will once again invite MATTA to lead a delegation of Malaysian travel trade to join the 14th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo to be held 10 to 12 April, continuing to highlight the potential of Macao as an ideal short-haul destination for Malaysians as part of the efforts to consolidate the Southeast Asian visitor source markets.
