"Future Challenges for the Travel Industry"

Two renowned tourism experts and academia, Dexter Choy and Alwin Zecha were invited to conduct the "Future Challenges for the Travel Industry Seminar" co-organized by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Macau Chapter and Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) at the Tourism Activities Centre today (July 5th). Prior to the seminar, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Chui Sai On presented Certificates of Appreciation to the two speakers to recognize their contributions to training for the Macau tourism industry in the past 25 years.

Director of Macau Government Tourist Office João Manuel Costa Antunes also participated in the seminar today. More than 60 members of the PATA Macau Chapter from the travel trade, airlines, hotels, MICE industry and ferry services took part in the seminar and were granted certificates for their participation.

The two speakers addressed 4 topics in the seminar, including "Back to the Future", "Online Travel Intermediaries", "Charting Your Company's Future" and "Selling to the Moneyed Masses".

It is the 25th year for MGTO and PATA Macau Chapter to co-organize such seminars since 1981. Dexter Choy and Alwin Zecha have been speakers at the seminars throughout these years and they have shared and enlightened seminar participants, including members of the PATA Macau Chapter and staff of the local tourism and related industries with their expertise, experience and insights on tourism management as well as the current development trends and opportunities of the tourism industry.

Dexter Choy is a professor at the University of Hawaii's School of Travel Industry Management. In addition to his university responsibilities, Choy is also a consultant for governments as well as private corporations in the Asian and Pacific regions. He has published many articles in the top tourism journals and is co-author of two textbooks, The Travel Industry and Professional Travel Agency Management. He has tremendous experiences and knowledge in the tourism industry and tourism management.

Alwin Zecha is the Chief Executive Chairman of Pacific Leisure Group, which is also the representative of MGTO in Thailand. He is a seasoned specialist of the tourism industry and a keen participant in tourism conferences and activities of PATA. Zecha is a Life Member of PATA as well as member of the PATA Board of Directors.

Dexter Choy and Alwin Zecha have been speakers for the seminar for the past 25 years. This is the last of such seminars to be organized, marking the end of its 25 years of history. To recognize their contributions to the seminar and training for tourism personnel in Macau, Secretary Chui Sai On presented them with Certificates of Appreciation prior to the commencement of the seminar.
