Macau Government Tourist Office participated in the Summit Symposium (Translation)

Deputy Director of the Macau Government Tourist Office, Mr. Manuel Pires attended the Summit Symposium on "Revitalizing Tourism Economy in Asia", which was held in Beijing. The participants of the summit has reached a consensus and signed a document today (10th).

The meeting was held from 9th to 11th of July in Beijing with the participation of the representatives from nine cities of Bangkok, Beijing, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau. Representatives from cities of Mainland China, namely Shanghai, Tianjin, Chongqing, Guiling, Xi'an and Kunming were invited to attend the meeting.

The document signed by the nine cities stated that the tourism organizations of the nine cities have overcome the impact of SARS on tourism. They will revitalize the tourism economy in Asia with concerted efforts and to raise the awareness and consciousness of health and hygiene, so as to bring the tourism industry in Asia to a new stage.

It was also said in the document that the nine cities will join hands to promote the tourism in Asia, and to persevere in long-term inter-city coordination which is not only conducive to the revival of Asian tourism industry in the wake of SARS, but also will, more importantly, play a significant role in the long-term development of tourism in Asian cities.
