Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) met with Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) on 21st in Macau to strengthen the close ties on tourism cooperation. During the meeting, the two authorities exchanged promotional experience and discussed joint promotions.

Led by Executive Director of HKTB Anthony Lau, the Hong Kong delegation comprising 28 representatives visited Macau to exchange ideas on tourism and strengthen mutual cooperation between the two regions. This is the second visit of HKTB to Macau in two months.

Director of MGTO João Manuel Costa Antunes, and Executive Director of HKTB Anthony Lau addressed the assembled representatives, which was followed by presentations on tourism promotional strategies of Macau and Hong Kong and in-depth discussions.

Taking advantage of the proximity of dates of the annual marketing meetings of MGTO and HKTB, the meeting in Macau was organized to allow participation of both Head Office personnel and worldwide representatives of the two regions. Officials of the two authorities reinforced discussion on further cooperation, while Heads of marketing departments and worldwide representatives of the two regions exchanged promotional experiences, and discussed for breakthroughs in ideas on promotion and diversification strategies.

Participants of the meeting included MGTO Director, João Manuel Costa Antunes, Deputy Directors Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Manuel Pires, Heads of Promotion and Marketing Department, Research and Planning Department, Product Development and Special Projects Department, relevant divisions and MGTO worldwide representatives. The Hong Kong delegation comprised of HKTB Executive Director, Anthony Lau, Deputy Executive Director Daisy Lam, Heads of various departments and HKTB worldwide representatives.

In the morning upon arrival to Macau, the Hong Kong delegation visited new tourism facilities to update their knowledge of Macau. MGTO hosted a luncheon to welcome the delegation prior to the meeting in the afternoon.

In October last year, Hong Kong Tourism Board Chairman James Tien, Executive Director Anthony Lau and related department heads visited Macau, during which they paid a courtesy visit to Macau SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho, and met with Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau SAR Government Chui Sai On and MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Antunes. In April this year, Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hong Kong Tourism Board and Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong held a meeting with Macau Government Tourist Office to strengthen tourism ties of the two regions.

Over the years, tourism authorities of Macau and Hong Kong have enjoyed close relationship and active cooperation in promoting regional tourism. A memorandum was signed in 1993 by the tourism departments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau with the objective to jointly develop tourism and promote the region to the world.
