Macau Government Tourist Office Promotes Macau World Heritage in Portugal (Translation)

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Chui Sai On attended the World Heritage Photo Exhibition in Portugal held by Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO), who is keen to promote Macau tourism and its valuable world heritage through this exhibition.

Secretary Chui Sai On and Director of MGTO João Manuel Costa Antunes officiated at the opening ceremony of the "Macau World Heritage Photo Exhibition" in Lisbon, Portugal on March 8. Joining them were Head of Macau Economic and Trade Office in Portugal, Raimundo Arrais do Rosairo, Coordinator of Macau Tourism Promotion and Information Center in Portugal, Rodolfo Manuel Baptista Faustino, among other guests and local media.

A selection of photos showcasing "The Historic Center of Macau", through which MGTO aims to further promote the world heritage of Macau in the European markets, will be displayed till the end of this year.

MGTO also plans to organize "Macau World Heritage Photo Exhibition", roadshows and campaigns in a number of cities in Portugal to foster a greater appreciation of the world heritage of Macau. Posters will also be distributed to various educational institutes, large enterprises and professional entities to raise awareness of the campaign.

2006 is "Macau World Heritage Year" and MGTO has mapped out a series of campaigns designed around the theme of Macau World Heritage Year to promote to the world Macau's cultural legacy and reinforce Macau's tourism brand as a cultural city.

The 29th Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Durban, South Africa last July has decided to inscribe China's bid,"The Historic Centre of Macau", on UNESCO's prestigious World Heritage List, raising the number of World Heritage Sites in China to 31.
