2002 Macau Tourism Awareness Campaign Chinese New Year Celebration (Translation)

Published on 2002/02/08

Macau Government Tourist Office will present citizens and visitors arriving in Macau with lucky ‘Lai Si’ pockets during Chinese New Year to wish everybody a prosperous and successful year.

The Macau Tourism Awareness Campaign was launched last September and has been promoting to the citizens knowledge of Macau tourism as well as hospitality through various activities. Chinese New Year is a high season for travelling, and Macau is a popular destination for enjoying this festival. MGTO will seize this opportunity to promote the slogan, ‘Be My Guest. Feel at Home’, to the public and visitors

Director of MGTO, Eng Costa Antunes will host the eye-dotting ceremony of the lion dance to mark the celebration on the 2nd day of Chinese New Year outside the Maritime Museum. The vigorous lion dance signals Macau to be as energetic and spirited as this noble beast in the Year of the Horse. The God of Fortune will give out ‘Lai Si’, the auspicious red pocket, to bestow good luck and fortune for the coming year.

The God of Fortune will then distribute ‘Lai Si’ and souvenirs to the public on his pedicab parade, which begins at A-Ma Temple, goes along Rua Do Almirante Sérgio and stops at Square of Senado where the public can take photos.
