Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) welcomed today (March 6) a delegation of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong, headed by its Chairman, Mr Ronnie Ho, for a two-day visit to Macau. A presentation on tourism products was held by MGTO to update the group on the latest development of the tourism industry of Macau. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Dr Chui Sai On was present at the dinner banquet hosted by MGTO for the delegation.

After arriving Macau this morning, the 160-person party attended a tourism product presentation at the Cultural Center, where representatives of MGTO introduced the current tourism situation of Macau. In addition to the new tourism projects and facilities that were portrayed to the travel trade in Hong Kong, representatives from two gaming operators, Fisherman's Wharf, Cultural Institute of the Macau SAR Government and the 4th East Asian Games Organizing Committee also gave short briefings on their development plans and preparation works.

The delegation then visited several tourism and infrastructure facilities that are recently completed or under construction in Macau and Taipa including the new Border Gate Checkpoint, Macau East Asian Games Dome, Macau International Airport, Lotus Bridge and the Macau Jockey Club.

In the evening, MGTO held a dinner banquet at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Center to welcome the delegation of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong.

In his speech, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Dr Chui Sai On expressed that apart from capitalizing on its own feature and competitive edge, Macau has to strengthen ties with neighboring cities for its tourism to grow and achieve sustainable development. In this way, the destinations can complement each other to enhance competitiveness in the international arena.

MGTO Director João Manuel Costa Antunes and officials were also present at the dinner with members from the Commission for Tourism Development and the Macau Grand Prix Committee and representatives from relevant organizations.
